This quilt was inspired by the MAQS contest a new quilt from an old favorite. The idea was to take the Burgoyne Surrounded block and use it in an innovative way that was still recognizable as Burgoyne surrounded. I took the block and skewed 45 degrees and then set it in to a lone star pattern with the traditional Burgoyne Surrounded blocks and the corner blocks to create a kaleidoscope effect. I quilted feathers in the dark blue sections of the Burgoyne blocks, and curls in to the purple sections and the corners of the block. The light blue setting triangles have feathered vines as does the outer purple border. The inner red border has a curling vine around it that is echoed in the center of the star. I used variegated thread for the purple and blue sections and solid red and dark blue thread for the rest. This quilt was juried into the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival XX in Hampton, VA, MQX and the Albuquerque Fiber Arts Fiesta. It won third place in the pieced quilts at the Lancaster County Fair and second place at the NE State Fair 2009.
