Picture of the Quilter and the winning quilt at IMQA
This is a variation of a broken star traditional pattern. I added star appliques to the outside blocks and cut the corner blocks on a diagonal. The background blocks are quilted with a feather wreath with grid work surrounding it. Inside the wreaths I used two different types of star outlines. The star appliques are outlined quilted and the applique itself has a diagonal cross hatch grid inside it. Around the applique is another feather wreath. The main center star is filled with half inch cross hatching and the out side "broke star" has parallel lines echoing the patch work every half inch. This quilt won Rookie of the year at IMQA, 2008, 1st Place at the Lancaster County Fair, 1st Place Mixed Technique Bed Quilts NE State Fair, 2nd Place Machine Quilting NE State Fair, Special Award for best use of Purple NE State Fair, 1st Place Traditional Star Design, NE State Fair, Best of Class Mixed Technique NE State Fair, and was the July Cover of Unlimited Possibilities . It was juried into AQS Des Moines 2008, and A Quilt Odyssey 2008.
